Mangaldai Commerce College celebrates 100th anniversary of Bharat Ratna “Dr. Bhupen Hazarika"

Today, on 8/9/2025 (Monday), the birth centenary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika is celebrated at the Mangaldai Commerce College. The event is graced by Mr. Minu Bora, Head, Department of Assamese, Mangaldai Commerce College. The programme started with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp before the portrait of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika by Mr. Ranjit Sarma, Principal (i/c) of the college. He also put a garland on the photograph of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika to pay him homage. He delivered a valuable speech on Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and explained the special overview of the biography. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rinamani Sarma Bordoloi, Head, Department of Business Mathematics and Statistics, Mangaldai Commerce College, addressed the students about Dr. Bhupen Hazarika's contribution to Assamese society as a lyricist, singer and director.
As part of the programme many competitions based on the life of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, are organized, including singing, essay, quiz, and drawing competitions. Around 60 students participated in the competition. The quiz competition was conducted by Mrs. Poonam Das Saharia, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Technology in Business. The essay, drawing and signing competitions are conducted by Assistant Professors Partha Pratim Deka, Madhusmita Duwarah, and Deepshikha Sarma. Finally, the programme successfully concluded with the vote of thanks offered by Mrs. Minu Bora, Head, Department of Assamese, Mangaldai Commerce College.
