On the occasion of the 36th International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed on 26th June 2026, an awareness lecture on "Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking" was organized by the NSS Unit, Mangaldai Commerce College, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), at the college campus.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Mr. Sabibar Rahman, NSS Programme Officer, Mangaldai Commerce College. The event was formally inaugurated by Dr. Runumoni Lahkar Das, Principal of Mangaldai Commerce College. In her inaugural address, Dr. Das highlighted the economic dimensions of the illegal drug trade and discussed various international treaties and initiatives aimed at combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking. She emphasized the collective responsibility of society in creating awareness and preventing the spread of drug addiction among the youth.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Mr. Ujjwal Jyoti Saharia, Assistant Coordinator, IQAC, Mangaldai Commerce College. He presented a powerful and insightful talk on the harmful effects of drug abuse, explaining its adverse impact on physical health, mental well-being, family relationships, and society at large. He also encouraged students to adopt a healthy lifestyle and stay away from substance abuse.
The programme witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 70 students, who actively interacted with the speakers during the question-and-answer session. Their queries regarding drug addiction, prevention, and rehabilitation were addressed comprehensively by the resource persons.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Safi Ahmed Humayun Qureshi, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Mangaldai Commerce College, who expressed his gratitude to the speakers, organizers, faculty members, and students for making the programme a success.
