Report on the Road Safety Awareness Programme at Mangaldai Commerce College

A comprehensive Road Safety Awareness Programme was jointly organized on 15th June 2026 by the NSS Unit and IQAC of Mangaldai Commerce College in collaboration with the District Transport Office (DTO), Darrang, Assam. The programme was held on the college campus with the objective of educating students about traffic rules, promoting responsible road behaviour, and reducing road accidents. It aimed to create awareness among students about the importance of road discipline and the need to minimize traffic violations.
The programme commenced with a welcome address delivered by Mr. Ujjwal Jyoti Saharia, Assistant Co-ordinator, IQAC of the College.The programme commenced with an inaugural address by the Principal of the college, Dr. Runumoni Lahkar Das, who emphasized the significance of road safety in preventing accidents and saving lives. She urged the students to become responsible road users and contribute to creating a safer traffic environment.
Following the inaugural session, Shri K. C. Rajbongshi, a senior official from the District Transport Office, delivered an informative presentation on road safety. He highlighted the common causes of road accidents and stressed the importance of wearing helmets and seat belts, obeying traffic signals, avoiding rash driving, and refraining from using mobile phones while driving. His presentation provided valuable insights into safe driving practices and traffic regulations.
Dr. Dhiren Deka, Co-ordinator of IQAC of the college also expresses serious concern regarding surge of recent road accidents and requested all the students to follow the guidelines issued by DTO from the hence to time.
At the end of the programme, Mr. Sabibar Rahman, Programme Officer of the NSS Unit, Mangaldai Commerce College, proposed the vote of thanks. He expressed gratitude to the resource person, the District Transport Office, the college administration, and all participants for making the programme successful.
The programme concluded with a pledge-taking ceremony in which all participants pledged to follow traffic rules and promote road safety awareness within their communities. Overall, the programme was successful in raising awareness among students about the critical role they play in ensuring road safety and encouraging responsible behaviour on the roads
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members. An interactive session was also held, during which students raised questions related to road safety and traffic rules.
