Mangaldai Commerce College observed the Closing Ceremony of the Year-Long Celebrations of the Birth Centenary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on 8 September 2026 with due solemnity, reverence and respect. The programme was organized to commemorate the life, works and enduring contributions of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika the legendary singer, lyricist, composer, filmmaker, poet and cultural icon of Assam whose creative works and humanistic ideals continue to inspire generations.
The programme was graced by the faculty members, non-teaching staff and students of Mangaldai Commerce College, who gathered to pay their heartfelt tribute to the legendary cultural personality.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp before the portrait of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika by Mr. Ranjit Sarma, Head, Department of Finance along with Mr. Prabodh Sarma, Head, Department of Economics and Dr. Dhiren Deka, Assistant Professor, Department of Management. As a mark of profound respect and homage, a garland was also offered to the portrait of the legendary cultural icon.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ranjit Sarma, Head, Department of Finance highlighted the immense contributions of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika to Assamese music, literature, cinema and society. He reflected upon Dr. Hazarika’s unique ability to connect art with social consciousness and emphasized the relevance of his humanistic message in contemporary society.
Mr. Ujjwal Jyoti Saharia, Coordinator, IQAC delivered a valuable and insightful speech on the life, works and enduring legacy of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. He highlighted the multifaceted personality of Dr. Hazarika and elaborated on his remarkable contributions to Assamese culture, music, literature and society. He also provided an overview of Dr. Hazarika’s life and achievements, emphasizing his timeless vision of humanity, social harmony, unity and universal brotherhood.
The Closing Ceremony served as a fitting tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, bringing the year-long celebrations to a meaningful and dignified conclusion. The programme reaffirmed the college community’s deep respect for his unparalleled contribution to the cultural, literary and intellectual heritage of Assam and India.
The occasion also provided an opportunity for the students and members of the college community to reflect upon and carry forward the ideals of humanity, harmony, compassion and social responsibility embodied in Dr. Hazarika’s life and works.
As a poignant conclusion to the programme faculty members and students of Mangaldai Commerce College came together to sing Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s iconic and timeless song, “Manuhe Manuhor Babe" as a heartfelt musical tribute to the legendary cultural icon. The collective rendition created an atmosphere of emotional resonance and unity, beautifully reflecting Dr. Hazarika’s enduring message of love, humanity and compassion.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage and humanistic values championed by Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, ensuring that his timeless legacy continues to inspire future generations.
