The Sports Club of Mangaldai Commerce College, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Mangaldai Commerce College, celebrated National Sports Day on 29th August 2025 with great enthusiasm and participation. The occasion was observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of the legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, popularly known as the “Hockey Wizard of India.”
As part of the celebration, the Sports Club organized a variety of indoor sports and literary competitions, including Carrom, Ludo, Chess, Arm Wrestling, and Debate for both boys and girls. The competitions provided students with an opportunity to showcase their sporting abilities, competitive spirit, confidence, and teamwork. A large number of students participated enthusiastically in the various events.
The programme was graced by Mr. Ranjit Sarma, Principal (i/c), Mangaldai Commerce College. In his address, he highlighted the significance of National Sports Day and emphasized the importance of sports and physical activities in maintaining a healthy and disciplined lifestyle. He also recalled the remarkable contribution of Major Dhyan Chand to Indian hockey and the nation's sporting heritage.
Mr. Safi Ahmed Humayun Qureshi, Convenor, Sports Club, Mangaldai Commerce College, stated that the college encourages students to participate actively in sports and games alongside their academic pursuits. He emphasized that participation in sports helps students develop discipline, leadership qualities, teamwork, physical fitness, and a positive competitive spirit.
The competitions were conducted in a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere. Prizes were distributed among the winners and runners-up in recognition of their performances and participation. The Principal (i/c), Sports Club Coordinator, teaching and non-teaching staff, and students actively participated in and contributed to the successful organization of the programme.
The celebration concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the importance of sports and physical activities in the holistic development of students and promoting the spirit of fitness, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship among the students of Mangaldai Commerce College.
