Mangaldai Commerce College observed Bishnu Rabha Divas on 20th June 2025 by organizing a day-long programme to commemorate the life, contributions, and enduring legacy of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, one of the most revered cultural icons of Assam.
The programme commenced at 11:00 AM with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp as a mark of homage to the legendary Kalaguru. Dr. Hemanta Chakravarty, HoD, Department of Management, Mangaldai Commerce College, inaugurated the programme. In his insightful inaugural speech, he highlighted the remarkable life journey, multifaceted contributions, and lasting impact of Bishnu Prasad Rabha on Assamese art, culture, literature, and society.
As part of the cultural segment, Mrs. Poonam Das Saharia, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Technology in Business (ITB), performed a Rabha Sangeet, paying tribute to the great cultural personality through his own musical creation.
An essay competition was also organized among the students on the theme “Contribution of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha towards Assamese Culture & Literature.” The competition was inaugurated by Dr. Rinamani Sarmah Bordoloi, HoD, Department of BMST. The students participated enthusiastically and expressed their understanding of the invaluable contributions of Bishnu Prasad Rabha to Assamese culture and literature. The first three position holders of the competition were awarded prizes in recognition of their outstanding performance.
The programme concluded with the rendition of the “Jatiya Sangeet of Assam.” Mrs. Minu Bora, HoD, Department of Assamese, initiated the programme and delivered the formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all the faculty members and students for their active participation and cooperation in making the event a success.
The observance of Bishnu Rabha Divas provided an opportunity for the students and faculty members to reflect upon the rich cultural heritage of Assam and to remember the extraordinary contributions of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha. The programme successfully fostered awareness and appreciation of his enduring legacy among the college community.
