An Awareness Programme on “City Hounded by Strays, Kids Pay the Price” was organised at Mangaldai Commerce College on 11th September, 2026 with the objective of creating awareness among students about the growing concerns associated with stray dogs and promoting responsible and safe coexistence between humans and animals.
The programme was conducted as part of the college's efforts to sensitise students towards issues of public safety, responsible citizenship, animal welfare and community participation. The programme highlighted the challenges faced by children, students and other members of the community due to stray dog-related incidents, particularly dog bites and the risks associated with uncontrolled stray dog populations.
Mr. Ranjit Sarma, Nodal Officer, Stray Dog Management, Mangaldai Commerce College, served as the Resource Person. In his informative address, he discussed the causes and consequences of stray dog-related problems and emphasised the importance of taking appropriate preventive measures. He sensitised the students about safe behaviour around stray dogs, the need to report aggressive or problematic animals to the appropriate authorities, and the importance of responsible community participation.
The Resource Person also stressed that the issue should be addressed through a balanced approach involving public safety, responsible animal management, awareness and humane measures. Students were encouraged to share the knowledge gained from the programme with their families and communities so that greater awareness could be created regarding the prevention of dog-bite incidents and safe practices.
The programme provided an opportunity for students to understand the issue from a practical and community-oriented perspective. It also encouraged them to become responsible citizens and contribute constructively towards maintaining a safe and harmonious environment in the locality.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks to the Resource Person, the organisers, faculty members and students for their active participation and cooperation. The awareness programme was meaningful and informative and successfully contributed to sensitising the students about stray dog management, public safety and responsible community engagement.
