Celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Vande Mataram

As part of the 150th anniversary celebrations of ‘Vande Mataram’, Mangaldai Commerce College organized a collective singing of the iconic National Song at the college premises. The programme was organized to commemorate the historical and cultural significance of the song, penned by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee and included in his celebrated novel Anand Math.
The programme was inaugurated virtually by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi. In his address, he highlighted the enduring significance of ‘Vande Mataram’ and its important role in inspiring patriotism, unity, and national consciousness among the people of India.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the Principal, Heads of Departments, faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students of the college. All the participants joined together in unison to sing ‘Vande Mataram’, creating an atmosphere of patriotism, unity, and national pride.
During the programme, Mr. Ujjwal Jyoti Saharia, Co-ordinator, IQAC, Mangaldai Commerce College, delivered an informative speech highlighting the historical significance of ‘Vande Mataram’ in India’s freedom movement. He mentioned that the song was first performed publicly by Rabindranath Tagore at a session of the Indian National Congress. He further highlighted that, after India attained independence, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, declared ‘Vande Mataram’ as the National Song of India.
