Mangaldai Commerce College observed World Day Against Child Labour on 12 June 2025 with the objective of creating awareness about the prevention and elimination of child labour. The observance aimed to sensitize students and faculty members to the various social, economic, and educational consequences of child labour and to encourage collective efforts towards its eradication.
World Day Against Child Labour has been observed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) since 2002 to draw global attention to the issue of child labour and to promote concerted efforts for its elimination.
The programme was organized by the Department of Finance in association with IQAC at the Digital Conference Hall. The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Parikshit Barman, Head, Department of Finance, who welcomed the Principal, resource person, faculty members, and students to the programme.
In his inaugural address, Mr. Ranjit Sarma, Principal (i/c), Mangaldai Commerce College, highlighted the plight of child labour in India as well as in different parts of the world. He emphasized the importance of education, social awareness, and collective responsibility in protecting children from exploitation and ensuring their rights and well-being.
The resource person, Miss Gayatri Devi, Assistant Professor, Department of Management, Mangaldai Commerce College, delivered an informative presentation on the various causes of child labour and possible measures for its prevention and eradication. She discussed the socio-economic factors responsible for child labour and highlighted various government schemes, legal provisions, and international initiatives aimed at eliminating the practice. Her address helped the participants understand the importance of creating a safe, equitable, and child-friendly society.
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Kamaleswar Deka, Assistant Professor, Department of Finance. He expressed his gratitude to the Principal, resource person, faculty members, and students for their active participation and contribution towards making the programme successful.
The observance served as an effective platform for sensitizing the college community about the serious issue of child labour and reinforcing the importance of collective action to protect children's rights and promote their access to education and a dignified future.
