Mangaldai Commerce College organized a Mass Pledge-Taking Event under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan on 13th August 2025 with the objective of creating awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse and promoting a healthy, responsible, and drug-free society.
The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Ranjit Sarma, Principal (i/c), Mangaldai Commerce College. In his inaugural address, Mr. Sarma highlighted the vital role of parents, teachers, social workers, and youth leaders in preventing substance abuse and building a drug-free society. He emphasized that education, open dialogue, awareness, and active community participation are essential tools in combating the growing menace of drug and substance abuse.
Mr. Prabodh Sarma, Head, Department of Economics, Mangaldai Commerce College served as the Resource Person for the programme. In his speech, he elaborated on the harmful physical, psychological, social, and economic consequences of substance abuse. He urged the students to remain aware of the dangers associated with drugs and other addictive substances and encouraged them to adopt healthy lifestyles and motivate their peers to stay away from substance abuse. He also emphasized the importance of collective efforts in creating a safe and substance-free environment.
Following the inaugural and awareness sessions, a mass pledge was solemnly administered to the teaching and non-teaching staff and students of the college. Through the pledge, the participants reaffirmed their commitment to staying away from drugs and other harmful substances and to spreading awareness among their peers, families, and members of society.
The programme was initiated by Mrs. Poonam Das Saharia, Convenor, Health & Hygiene Cell, Mangaldai Commerce College. Her initiative and dedicated efforts contributed significantly to the successful organization of the event.
