On 17th February, 2026, the department of Economics in association with IQAC, Mangaldai Commerce College organized the day-long discussion on Union Budget 2026-2027.
At the beginning of the programme, the Principal (i/c) of Mangaldai Commerce College, Mr. Ranjit Sarma, highlighted the key features of the Union Budget 2026–27 and elaborated on the role the budget is expected to play in the overall development of India.
The programme was attended by Prof. Dr. Kumud Chandra Goswami from the Department of Commerce, Dibrugarh University, and Dr. Sastri Ram Kachari, Head of the Department of Economics, Sipajhar College, who participated as Resource Persons. In his keynote address, Prof. Goswami elaborately discussed various aspects of the budget, including employment generation, enhancement of productivity, and economic growth. He also spoke in detail about the major economic reforms adopted and the tax reforms introduced to strengthen the country’s production sector.
The second Resource Person, Dr. Sastri Ram Kachari, presented an analytical discussion of the main provisions of the budget and interacted with the teachers and students present at the programme.
The programme was conducted by Prof. Prabodh Sarma, Head of the Department of Economics. The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Safi Humayun Qureshi, expressing gratitude to the faculty members and students for making the programme a success.
