A Freshman Social Programme was organized at Mangaldai Commerce College on 30th September 2026 as a day-long programme to formally welcome and celebrate the newly admitted students of the college. The programme was organized with the objective of providing a platform for interaction, cultural expression, talent showcase, and creating a sense of belonging among the freshers.
The programme commenced with the hoisting of the College Flag by Dr. Runumoni Lahkar Das, Principal, Mangaldai Commerce College followed by the hoisting of the Students’ Union Body Flag by Mr. Sourav Mani Deka, President, Students’ Union Body, Mangaldai Commerce College. Thereafter, the Principal delivered her inaugural address.
Following the flag-hoisting ceremony, Swahid Tarpan was performed by Mr. Prabodh Sarma, Assistant Professor, Mangaldai Commerce College along with the faculty members and students as a mark of respect and remembrance of the martyrs. As part of the programme, Mr. Ranjit Sarma, Assistant Professor, Mangaldai Commerce College, planted a sapling on the college campus, symbolizing growth, hope, and the institution’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
The Freshman Social Programme was formally inaugurated by Mr. Ujjwal Jyoti Saharia, Coordinator, IQAC, Mangaldai Commerce College.
The open session commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp before the portrait of the legendary cultural icon Zubeen Garg. The Principal, Dr. Runumoni Lahkar Das along with the faculty members and students, paid floral tribute to the departed cultural icon as a mark of profound respect and homage.
Thereafter, Dr. Runumoni Lahkar Das, Principal, Mangaldai Commerce College delivered the welcome address and extended her warm greetings to the newly admitted students. She encouraged the freshers to actively participate in academic, cultural, and co-curricular activities and to contribute positively to the college community.
The programme witnessed a variety of cultural performances, including traditional and modern dances, songs, drama, and other entertaining activities, presented by the students. The performances created an atmosphere of enthusiasm and joy and provided the freshers with an opportunity to showcase their talents and interact with their fellow students. As part of the Freshman Social, two students were selected as Freshers of the Session 2026–27.
The afternoon session was further enriched by the participation of popular vocalist Mr. Tanmoy Saikia, whose musical performance added a special attraction to the cultural function. The audience, particularly the students, enthusiastically enjoyed his performance.
The entire Freshman Social Programme was anchored by Ms. Anindita Shivam and Mr. Rahul Amin Mandal, Assistant Professor, Mangaldai Commerce College and Mr. Chintumoni Hazarika, student of the college under the guidance of Mr. Ujjwal Jyoti Saharia. Their effective anchoring contributed significantly to the smooth and orderly conduct of the programme.
The day-long celebration concluded successfully in a festive, joyful, and congenial atmosphere. The programme provided the newly admitted students with an opportunity to become familiar with the college environment, interact with their peers and teachers, showcase their talents, and participate actively in the cultural life of the institution. The event thus served as a meaningful platform for welcoming the freshers and fostering a sense of unity, belonging, and enthusiasm among the students of Mangaldai Commerce College.
